The Law and Other Things Blog (LAOT), in collaboration with the Community for the Eradication of Discrimination in Education and Employment (CEDE), is inviting applications for the position of Legal Writing Analysts from students selected through CEDE’s internal process.
About the Blog
Founded in 2005, LAOT is India’s oldest public law blog. Since 2017, it has been managed by a student team from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, under the guidance of a distinguished Senior Editorial Board comprising leading scholars and practitioners in public law. LAOT is one of the few law blogs in India with a strong peer review system where every post undergoes rigorous review by the Senior Editorial Board before publication. The blog regularly publishes analytical and explainer pieces, hosts the annual Courts & the Constitution Conference with Azim Premji University, produces podcasts, and runs a newsletter, Lately in Public Law.
About CEDE
CEDE is a network of lawyers, judges, law firms, organisations, and individuals committed to reforming the Indian legal profession by addressing the under-representation of marginalised communities including Dalits, Adivasis, OBCs, Nomadic & Denotified communities, transgender individuals, persons with disabilities, people from North-East India, and other minorities in both the legal profession and the judiciary.
CEDE works through internships for students from marginalised groups, capacity building sessions on skills such as resume drafting, email etiquette, and legal research and research to inform policy changes that promote diversity and inclusion.
About the Position
The CEDE Analyst role is a writing-focused opportunity to build a strong public law portfolio while being mentored by LAOT’s Student Editorial Board and, where relevant, members of the Senior Editorial Board. Analysts will be encouraged to write on socio-legal issues and develop their work from explainers to more analytical pieces over time.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Receive structured mentorship and feedback from LAOT Legal Editors and Senior Editors.
- Collaborate closely with a designated mentor from LAOT’s Student Editorial Board, responding promptly to feedback and adhering to deadlines.
- Participate in other LAOT initiatives such as the Lately in Public Law newsletter, podcasts, and book discussions, based on interest.
- Engage in mentorship sessions with Senior Editorial Board members or other invited resource persons on career prospects, editing, and academic writing.
Eligibility
Applicants must be from underrepresented marginalised castes. Please note that the applicant must mandatorily send their caste certificate along with their submission.

Duration
Two-month probationary period, extendable until the end of the academic year.
Application Process
As part of the selection process, applicants must submit one piece (1200–1500 words) on any contemporary legal development in the field of public law.
- The piece should explain a complex public law topic such as a recent judgment, legislation, or case for a general audience while engaging with different published opinions on the matter.
- Please refer to previous LAOT explainers for style guidance.
- Submissions exceeding the word limit will be penalised.
