Scholarships for Indian students to study Law (JD/LLM) at Melbourne Law School

DESCRIPTION

The Alex Chernov JD Scholarship/Alex Chernov Master of Laws (LLM) Scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2017 to students from India commencing at Melbourne Law School in 2018.

The scholarship is named for Melbourne alumnus the Hon Alex Chernov AC QC, former Governor of Victoria, Judge of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Victoria, and chancellor of the University of Melbourne. After a celebrated career at the Victorian Bar punctuated by leadership and service to the community, Mr Chernov was instrumental in founding the Australia India Institute, serving as Chair of the Institute from 2008-2011 and as its Patron from 2011 onwards. The JD at Melbourne Law School is recognised by the Indian Bar Council.

ELIGIBILITY

Open to international students from India commencing the Melbourne JD or the start-year intake of the Master of Laws (LLM).

SELECTION CRITERIA

Selection will be based on academic merit.

VALUE

The scholarship will contribute the recipient’s full tuition fees for the three-year full-time Juris Doctor (JD) degree/one-year full-time Master of Laws (LLM) degree.

Former Judge of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Victoria and Governor of Victoria, the Hon Alex Chernov, will provide mentoring for the successful applicant.

HOW TO APPLY

Students offered a place in the Melbourne JD who have applied by 1 November 2017 will automatically be considered for this scholarship and selection is based on their application.

Students offered a place in start-year intake of the Master of Laws (LLM) who have applied by 31 October 2017 will automatically be considered for this scholarship and selection is based on their application.
