Grade 7: £31,076 to £38,183 p.a.

Fixed Term for 3 Years from 1 October 2017 or as soon after this date as possible.

Applications are invited by the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow position in the area of Civil and Political Rights. This is a full time fixed term appointment for 3 years commencing 1 October 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Bonavero Institute of Human Rights has recently been established by the Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford.  The Faculty intends the Institute to become a world leader in research and scholarship in the law of human rights, including, as part of that work, the improvement of the public understanding of human rights and the linking of research to practice.
The position will provide an opportunity for an exceptional candidate to conduct research in the field of Civil and Political Rights Law under the supervision of the Institute Director.  Candidates who propose to work in the field of Freedom of Expression and Media Law and/or Elections and Voting rights law are encouraged to apply, although consideration will also be given to other candidates.

Applicants will be required to identify and develop lines of research enquiry including if appropriate, to contribute to the collection, management and analysis of empirical data; to write papers and articles linked to the Institute’s area of focus, and assist with the management of programmes and activities within the Institute.

Applicants will need to have a completed doctorate in Law (or evidence of imminent completion) specialising in an aspect of Human Rights Law; a coherent three-year project proposal; professional familiarity with, scholarly literature and debates within the field, relevant to the project proposal; outstanding research skills and the ability to contribute, under the direction of the Institute Directors, to the design, analysis and writing of scholarly articles, papers and monographs.

The post will be based at Mansfield College, Oxford, OX1 3TF
