The Editorial Board of the Indian Law Review (“ILR”) invites applications for the position of an Editor on its Editorial Board.

The ILR, published by Taylor and Francis, was launched in 2017 by a group of legal academics based in institutions of legal education in Australia, India, the UK and the US.  In the ensuing five years, it has emerged as a leading vehicle for scholarship on law not just in India, but across the Indian subcontinent.  Across five volumes, the ILR has carried articles on important topics in public, private and commercial, and international law, among other subjects, approached from a diverse range of methodological perspectives.

Articles published in the ILR have garnered citations in judgments of the Indian Supreme Court, and in influential scholarship.  Its content has been downloaded in law schools around the world.  To continue its mission of providing a platform for some of the most rigorous legal scholarship on South Asian and comparative law, the Editorial Board is now seeking members who can help expand the journal’s reach and depth.

Applicants are expected to have an academic position in a law school or in a university department/school. Researchers who work outside the university space in research institutions are also eligible to apply. A minimum of 7 years’ academic research experience will normally be expected from applicants (a PhD or its equivalent is preferred but not required).  Applicants must possess a record of publications that fits with their experience and appropriate for their stage of academic career.  Candidates who have a background in peer reviewing and/or journal editing will be preferred.

Successful candidates will undertake the following responsibilities, while working with members of the existing Editorial Board:

  • Overseeing a rigorous, constructive, and supportive peer review and editorial process while maintaining high standards of ethics and collegiality.
  • Participating in the decision-making on acceptance, rejection and revisions of manuscripts received by the ILR.
  • Actively soliciting submissions across a range of articles, literature review and conspectus pieces, case comments and book reviews.
  • Contribute to creatively furthering the mission and goals of the ILR.

Applications should include:

  • A brief cover letter (no more than 2 A4 sides, reasonable font and margins) explaining how they satisfy the eligibility criteria,
  • A statement of purpose (no more than 1000 words) explaining their motivation for applying and their vision for the journal over the next five years, and
  • A CV (no more than 2 A4 sides, reasonable font and margins).

Please email your application (as a single PDF document) to [email protected].  The deadline for applications is February 15, 2022.  Short listed candidates will be notified of the interview dates and further steps by March 15, 2022.
